Nominate Your Luminary

The Light of Literacy Awards recognizes those “Luminaries” whose actions demonstrate a deep understanding of the transformational power of literacy in the lives of those in our community. Nominations close February 21, 2020 for the 2020 Light of Literacy Awards Ceremony.

2015 Award Criteria

Please provide specific examples which explain how you nominee has impacted our community in some or all of the following ways:

  • Changed another’s life through the power of literacy
  • Created works that are representative of a desire to promote learning and knowledge though the power of literacy • Created innovative educational programs related to promoting literacy
  • Motivated groups to support the cause of literacy
  • Demonstrated dedication to excellence in a cause benefiting education
  • Developed a program or another literacy service that benefits the community
  • Participated in an action of extraordinary kindness, courage or selflessness within our community

2014 Award Recognition Categories

Youth Volunteer Award (someone up to age 18)
Recognizes a literacy-based action of extraordinary kindness, courage or selflessness among youth in the community.

Adult Award(someone 18 years of age or older)
Recognizes a literacy-based action of extraordinary kindness, courage or selflessness among adults in the community.

Local Author (a native or resident of the Lower Eastern Shore area who has been published)
Recognizes a local author of any age who is a native of or resides on the Lower Eastern Shore who has been published and are passionate about the cause of literacy.

Educator (an individual who works in the education profession with students from birth through the 12th grade)
Recognizes individuals within educational organizations (educators, administrators, volunteers, professors, or students) who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in education by promoting literacy and reading-based initiatives.

Higher Education (an individual who works, teaches or attends formal, post-high school instruction)
Recognizes educational institutions of higher learning and/or the individuals within those organizations (educators, administrators, volunteers, professors, or students) who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in education by promoting literacy and reading-based initiatives.

Business Award (for-profit organization)
Nomination is a company’s achievement or a company-supported achievement of that company’s employees and staff.

Organization Award (non-profit organization)
Nomination is for organization’s achievements or an organization-supported achievement of that organization’s employees or staff.
